CT Congressman Jim Himes on Stillbirth Legislation

H.R. 4581, the Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act, would allow federal funding under Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act to be used for important, evidence-based initiatives and research to reduce the incidence of stillbirths and provide support to families. H.R. 5012, The Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education (SHINE) for Autumn Act of 2023 would provide additional funding for research into stillbirths, including through grants to states and funds for research fellowships specializing in perinatal care. It would require the federal government to coordinate with states and healthcare providers to ensure effective research, data collection, and education surrounding stillbirths at a state level.
